DoorKing Gate Access Control in Northridge: What to Know First
We’re an independent DoorKing service provider in Northridge, and we repair, replace, and upgrade DoorKing gate access control systems for homeowners across the San Fernando Valley. Most DoorKing keypad, phone entry, and card reader repairs are completed in a single visit, usually within 24 to 48 hours of your call. Pricing is quoted and agreed before any work starts, and every job carries our written 90-Day Done Right Promise.

If you own a DoorKing gate and the keypad stopped accepting codes, the phone entry won’t buzz the gate open, or a card reader quit reading, this page was written for you. Call (925) 966-4150 and a live person answers. No voicemail tree, no callback queue.
How DoorKing Products Fail - and How We Fix Them
- Keypad membrane failure on the 1812 and 1802 series. Northridge heat bakes the rubber membrane until it cracks and lets moisture into the circuit board underneath. The symptom is always the same: some buttons work, others don’t, or the keypad beeps but never accepts the code. We replace the membrane and reseal the housing with a gasket rated for direct sun. An aftermarket membrane with a UV inhibitor lasts about the same as OEM here, at roughly half the cost.
- Phone entry relay sticking on the 1830 and 1834 series. The relay that triggers the gate opener develops carbon buildup over thousands of cycles, and the gate opens five seconds after the phone line drops, or not at all. This is a board-level repair most companies won’t touch because they’d rather sell you a whole new controller. We clean and retension the relay when possible, or replace the board with OEM when the relay is beyond saving. Either way, you get a straight diagnosis before we turn a screw.
- Wiegand card reader drift on the 1814 and 1815 series. These readers slowly lose their ability to read cards in cold weather. A card that worked all summer stops reading on a 45-degree Northridge morning. The fix is usually a voltage adjustment at the main board and a reader face cleaning, not a new reader. If the reader is truly dead, we install OEM so the card formatting stays compatible with the rest of your system.
- Power supply capacitor failure on older 4300-series and MicroPLUS controllers. The electrolytic capacitors in the power supply dry out over ten to fifteen years and the system starts rebooting randomly or losing programmed codes overnight. DoorKing’s own documentation suggests board replacement; we replace the capacitors when the board is otherwise sound, which costs a fraction of a new controller and gives you another five to eight years of reliable service.
- Lightning and surge damage to access control boards. Northridge may not see thunderstorms often, but when the power flickers during Santa Ana wind events, the spikes travel through the phone line and kill the surge suppression on the main board. The gate goes dead without warning. We install inline surge protection on the phone and power legs as part of any board replacement, which DoorKing’s factory installs often skip.
Our DoorKing Gate Access Control Process
- 1
You call and talk to a person. We note the symptoms, the model number if you know it, and the age of the system. Then we give you a service window we’ll actually hit.
- 2
We show up and diagnose the system in the driveway. No guesswork. We check power to the board, test the keypad or reader, and bench-test the relay. You’ll get a clear explanation of what’s wrong and what it’ll take to fix it.
- 3
We settle on the parts before any work starts. For DoorKing access control, we use OEM parts on warranty-sensitive components like the main board and use quality aftermarket parts where they genuinely perform as well, like membranes and gaskets. You’ll know which is which and why, and the price is locked before we begin.
- 4
We do the repair in one visit. Our trucks carry DoorKing boards, keypads, readers, relays, and power supply components because we know Northridge homeowners don’t want to wait on a parts order when the gate is stuck shut.
- 5
We test everything, then test it again. Every code, every card, every phone line, every cycle of the gate. The full travel, both directions, including the safety edges.
- 6
We write up the job and explain your 90-Day Done Right Promise. If it’s not right, we come back and make it right. No paperwork, no arguing, no exceptions.
What DoorKing Gate Access Control Costs in Northridge
Based on the jobs we see in Northridge every month, here’s what homeowners can expect to pay for DoorKing access control work:
- Keypad repair (membrane or button replacement): $120 to $220, parts included
- Keypad or reader full replacement: $280 to $450, OEM parts
- Phone entry system repair (relay or board-level): $180 to $320
- Main board replacement (4300-series or MicroPLUS): $400 to $650, OEM board
- Complete access control retrofit (keypad, board, and phone entry): $900 to $1,500 depending on wiring condition
The biggest price drivers are the age of the wiring and whether a previous installer spliced in aftermarket parts that now have to be undone. Northridge’s older homes near CSUN and the Devonshire corridor often have original wiring from the 1980s that’s still perfectly serviceable, but it has to be tested before we can quote a firm price. Call (925) 966-4150 for a free estimate. The price we quote is the price you’ll pay, agreed before any work begins.
Why Northridge Homeowners Call Ironworks Gate Co. for DoorKing Work
Victor Salinas grew up in Northridge, not far from the old Northridge Fashion Center, and he’s spent the better part of three decades fixing gates across the San Fernando Valley. Our technicians work on DoorKing equipment daily, which means we’ve seen the failure modes that don’t show up in the manual. We carry the parts on the truck, not in a catalog.
When a DoorKing system is beyond a cost-effective repair or the homeowner wants to switch brands, we also service LiftMaster, Mighty Mule, and Ghost Controls, along with five other major opener brands. We’re not tied to one manufacturer, so the recommendation you get is the one that’s right for your gate, not the one that’s easiest for us to sell.
Every DoorKing access control job we complete in Northridge, from a simple keypad replacement to a full phone entry retrofit, is protected by our written 90-Day Done Right Promise. If it’s not right, we come back and make it right. That’s been the standard since 1984, and it applies to every job we do.
The gate should open when you need it to and stay put when you don’t. Everything else is just getting there.
FAQs
We’re an independent DoorKing service provider, not a factory-authorized dealer, so we don’t process DoorKing’s manufacturer warranty claims. What we do is provide a written 90-Day Done Right Promise on every access control repair we complete, covering parts and labor. If it’s not right, we return and make it right.
In most cases we can replace just the keypad or reader without touching the main board or rewiring the gate. DoorKing uses modular components, and as long as the main board is healthy, a new keypad or membrane gets you back in business for under $250 on most Northridge systems.
Most Northridge calls are handled within 24 to 48 hours, and phone support is live around the clock. If the gate is stuck shut or stuck open and creating a security problem, tell the person who answers and we’ll prioritize your visit.
If your DoorKing controller is less than about 15 years old and the failure is a relay, capacitor, or keypad membrane, a repair typically costs less than a third of a new system and buys you years of additional service. If the board has suffered multiple failures, has visible corrosion, or was water damaged, we’ll tell you honestly that replacement is the better use of your money.
Yes. Many Northridge homeowners have dropped their landlines but kept the DoorKing phone entry system connected to the old phone jacks. We can convert the system to work with cellular adapters or a VoIP line, or move you to a keypad-only setup if you’d rather not deal with phone service at all.
Call (925) 966-4150 today for a free estimate on your DoorKing gate access control repair or upgrade. A live person answers, the quote is free, and the price we give you is the price you’ll pay.
